Did you go to the beach
and forget to keep applying your sunscreen throughout the day? Yowza! Remember
what your sunburn feels like so you’ll remember to protect yourself next time
you spend the day in the sun. And in the meantime, here are a few soothing
solutions to cool the burn:
·
Apply pure aloe
vera gel to soothe pain and regenerate skin cells to promote healing.
·
Lavender is an
antiseptic, cooling herb that can relieve burning and protect against secondary
infections. To make a healing preparation, fill an 8-ounce sprayer bottle with
cold water, and add 6 drops of essential oil of lavender to it. Shake the
contents well, and spray the mix on sunburned areas for an instant cool-off.
·
Drink plenty of
water to help heal your overheated skin. Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeinated
beverages because they are diuretics that will steal much-needed moisture from
your skin.
·
Soothe the burn
by placing chilled slices of cucumber on your simmering skin. A dab of cold
plain yogurt or a splash of vinegar will do the job, too.
· Take some
aspirin, ibuprofen, or other pain reliever. The drugs won’t help the burn heal,
but they’re very effective at reducing pain while nature takes its course.
Follow package directions for the correct dose.
·
When green tea is
applied topically to skin, it may stave off cellular damage. So brew a pot of
green tea, let it cool, then pour it into a sprayer bottle. Gently spritz it on
the burned areas daily, and the green just may help heal the red.
