It’s
easy to overeat on Thanksgiving day—especially when you’re a guest and you want
to show your hosts how much you appreciate their delicious turkey, and stuffing,
and mashed potatoes, and pie…and more
pie. Next thing you know, you’re stuffed to the gills and suffering.
The
problem is that eating a giant meal all but guarantees a bout of indigestion
because all that food in your stomach requires enormous amounts of digestive
acids. So keep the portion sizes small, and then you can sample a little bit of
everything. If that doesn’t work, give thanks for a bounty of down-home helpers
like these:
To
prevent indigestion, this trick may help: Before the big feast, mix 2
teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water and drink up. The
acidity of vinegar aids the acids produced by the body to help digestion.
You
can ease the discomfort of indigestion in a flash with a few sprigs of fresh
parsley. If there’s no fresh parsley on hand, scoop ¼ teaspoon of the dried
version, mix it into a glass of warm water, and drink up. Your
tummy will feel better in no time.
Soothe
your stomach quick with this concoction: Mix a teaspoon each of lemon and
ginger juice and two teaspoons of honey with lukewarm water. Sip slowly until
your stomach settles down.
Here’s
wishing you a happy, healthy Thanksgiving!
