Four Ways to Weather Winter Woes

Between winter’s harsh, icy winds, and dry indoor heat, your skin takes a beating and end up rough, chapped, and sore. So treat it right—right now—and you’ll be smooth and silky enough to weather whatever weather Ol’ Man Winter throws our way. Here’s how:

1.    Heal sore, chapped hands. You say you spent too much time working bare-handed in frigid weather, and now your hands are red, raw, and burning? Not to worry! Just mix some ultra-rich hand cream with an equal amount of vinegar (any kind will do), and smooth it into your mitts every time you wash them. Trust me—within a few days your skin will be as good as new.
2.    Moisturize rough lips. When winter wind leaves your lips parched, dry, and sore, intensive care is right in your kitchen. Just mash a few slices of ripe banana with a couple teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil to make a thick paste, and rub it onto your lips. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse it off with warm water. Repeat as needed until your kisser is in fine fettle again.
3.    Revive winter-weary skin. Wintry winds and indoor heat can leave your skin feeling so dry and itchy that you want to climb the wall—or hop a plane bound for a tropical island. If a warm-weather escape isn’t possible, try this more practical solution: Add 1 cup of baking soda and 1 ¼ cups of baby oil to a tub of warm water, and soak your discomfort away.
4.    And here’s a peachy-keen idea! On a sunny winter day, cold, dry breezes can deliver a nasty windburn before you know it. To ease the pain, slice a peach in half, and rub the juicy surface over your afflicted skin. You’ll feel better in no time!
