Given
the flying-off-the-shelves success of our recent Solar Molechaser sale (sorry if you missed it — it was a doozy!), I
figured there must be lots of you out there who would appreciate a few easy
tips to get those bulldozing bullies to mosey on outta your territory.
Contrary
to what most folks think, moles are insect eaters. Unfortunately, as they
tunnel through the soil in search of dinner, they travel right through grass
roots, leaving them vulnerable to drought, diseases, and other pests.
Fortunately,
there are several ways to say “Sayonara.” Whichever one you choose, you might
have to repeat it a few times, but eventually, the moles will give up and move
on. First, locate the tunnel entrances, then pop one of these anti-mole tools
into the hole:
- A stick of Juicy Fruit® gum
and a partially crushed garlic clove
- Several scoops of used kitty
litter
- A few squirts of pine-based
cleaner
- Half a cup or so of my Mole-Chaser
Tonic:
Mix 1½ tablespoons of hot-pepper sauce, 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, 1 teaspoon of chili powder, and 1 quart of water in a bucket, and pour a little
of the mixture into holes every foot or so along a mole run. The little guys
will get a taste they won’t soon forget!
The
one sure way to get moles out of your yard is to banish their food
supply — grubs — by drenching your turf with beneficial nematodes. Just beware that
once you’ve sent the grubs packin’, your mole problems could get worse for a
while before they get better. That’s because the little guys, suddenly finding
themselves without their favorite food, will charge around frantically in search
of dinner before they head for grubbier pastures.
